He was involved with ETA (Exercise Teachers Academy) for 10 years as a part-time lecturer for the training of Personal Trainers, Sports Coaches and Sports Conditioners and contracted to Power Plate SA for the last 10-years to run Internationally accredited Academies for the training of Medical and Fitness Professionals on the rehabilitative use of the Power Plate.

Biokinetic services offered at Vertebrae Wellness Clinic are the treatment of chronic back pain (neck and lower back), sports injuries and orthopeadic (pre- and post-operative) conditions using involuntary muscle stimulation via (1) Compex technology and (2) Neurotrac EMG testing. (1) Compex neuromuscular electrical technology is used to activate weak or atrophied muscles and neural pathways by stimulating the motor nerve at the muscle directly via electrodes. This is particularly useful if damaged has occurred in the brain or spinal cord as these systems are bypassed to directly stimulate the peripheral nerves and their corresponding muscles. This technology helps to activate weak muscles and neural pathways once we have established the pathology. This process is necessary to get permanent and faster results when rehabilitating injuries or neurological (stroke, spinal cord injuries) conditions.

(2) Neurotrac EMG technology involves the use of electromyography (EMG) to evaluate and record the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles using surface electrodes which is accomplished using the Neurotrac MyoPlus2 Pro. The goal is to determine or detect muscle weakness or imbalances by placing electrodes on the relevant muscle sites and recording the muscle activity. Once these imbalances are objectively measured can you then use the Neurotrac as a biofeedback tool to re-train the muscle weakness or imbalances or use it as a muscle stimulator to involuntary activate weak or atrophied muscles.

Serisha Neerachand is a qualified podiatrist since graduating from the University of Johannesburg in 2007. Having practised in Johannesburg for the past ten years, she is now expanding her practice to Kwa Zulu Natal.

The reason behind her move is the opportunity to serve a larger community in Kwa Zulu Natal, where there is a lack of podiatry services. But why do you need to see a podiatrist, some may ask? Well, a podiatrist is an Allied Healthcare professional registered with the health professions council of South Africa. Podiatrists are trained to diagnose, prevent and rehabiliate by medical and surgical means conditions of the foot and lower limbs.

Serisha specialises in treating patients with diabetes, children, biomechanics as well as patients who require specific footwear and socks. Using her state of the art computerised Gait Analysis System, Serisha identifies and corrects gait problems thus ensuring proper offloading in diabetic patients and relief from painful heels and spurs.
